Had a good hoss around the Indy circuit at Brands Hatch. Excellent fun, and I was nimble enough through the corners to worry a couple of much faster machines :) a little light photography after the jump (MX-5, R32 GT-R, E46 and E36 M3, Sierra Sapphire and good old Caterham 7s).
This thing immediately caught my eye. Looked brilliant, and the driver was alright as well. Again. it's a story of me keeping up through the corners but being left behind a little on the straights.
This next guy was seriously quick too. Very close to the edge going through the last few corners on the track. Great to watch :)
Then there was this Nismo GT-R that looked like an utter beast. The pictures don't do justice to how wide this thing was. Very quick on track too.
The chap in the GT-R was having a fantastic little duke-out with this E46 M3 for a good few laps. It only really stopped when the BMW driver was getting a bit ragged and kept hanging the rear out on a couple of the corners, realised this and let him go. Other than that they were neck-and-neck.
The green shoes were track-only wheels that they swapped on at the start (there was another E46 M3 running around with orange wheels, but I never managed to get a clean shot of it).
Next, this fairly innocuous-looking 4-door Ford:
Most likely a Cosworth variant, as this thing absolutely flew. Billowed smoke out of the exhaust when he did, but even the GT-R was moving over for him.
And lastly, a gorgeous little Caterham as the sun was going down. Where it belongs. Trackside.
There's high-res versions and a couple more photos over on my !!!error: Indecipherable SUB-paragraph formatting!!! if you fancy a look :)

Dammit this makes me want to buy a Miata (again) or something other performance oriented and cheap.

I was in Kent for a month on a business trip but didn't get a chance to go to Brands Hatch. Wish I had.

That's a shame, it's a great circuit. Especially for spectating. It's right in the 'v' of a valley, and runs partway up the sides, so you can quite easily get a spot that overlooks a good proportion of the track.

oh that MR2 reminds me so much of my deceased green one. is it a UK non-turbo?
It looks like it's the rarish green colour that never looks quite right in photo's but looks amazing in person.

It is a UK non-turbo. I think 170bhp or something similar, which is still impressive from a 2.0l back in the 90s :) great little chassis on them too. I've been very impressed by it.
You're right about the colour as well. It's actually a very dark metallic green which looks great, but doesn't translate over to photos at all.

Yeah, that's almost a carbon copy of my old one. Mine was the Aussie delivered Bathurst model though so it had cloth seats instead of leather. I have a black turbo model now, and it's actually easier to keep clean than the green one was.
I do miss how the 3S-GE sounded though, the extra speed of the turbo is nice but it doesn't sing like the old one did.

It really does make a nice sound. I was going to get some video and audio of it, but the organisers of the trackday frown upon suction mounts so I couldn't mount them anywhere.
